Kirby CEO Departures Kirby to depart American Physical Society Kate Kirby plans to retire in December from the $67M-revenue American Physical Society in College Park, Md. She joined the association for physicists and other physics-related professionals as executive officer in 2009, and was named the group's first CEO in February 2015. APS has more than 55,000 members and 250 staff. Prior to APS, she was director of the Institute for Theoretical Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics at Harvard-Smithsonian from 2001-2007.
